Potty Training

Hey mummies out there..those of you who have successfully potty trained your kids... Can give me some tips on doing so? I read about it, I did some research on it but still... I am hoping for some practical and trial and tested sure win tips! :)

I am suppose to potty train Reese in a few days... Mmmm.. I need to get 2 potties too..any good idea on the kind to buy? I am wondering... do you teach him to sit and pee or stand and pee? I doubt he knows how to aim at the potty! So how? I am soooo clueless... Help mummies...

Maybe u can try to hold the potty up just under his penis, so that he doesn't need to aim it himself.

I heard many said that the traditional potty (round and simple type) still the best.

I agree with babydarren's parent, the round one is best.

My MIL got one cute one with the bear head but the seat somehow hurts the thighs, so it's practically unused, and for a while it was used as a toy. Not a good idea for the kid in terms of relating to objects.

To start, try catching him when he is showing signs or pooping first. (I started that with Max, telling him, to sit on potty so that he won't have a messy bum.) Once he is ok with sitting on the potty, he will be more willing to pee into it, meaning more frequent on the potty.

Pee: practise at home first, or just around condo: Go without diapers and every now and then check with Reese if he needs to pee and just mention with that that he has no diapers on.

Expect accidents so always carry extra pants if walking around condo, and be ready with a rag-cloth or mop at home. Careful he does not slip on his own pee. After a while he will be able to read his biological signals.

Max started with wanting to poo in potty first, but still cannot tell when he wants to pee. Now he will announce he needs to pee, takes off his own pants and walk into the toilet and pee into the drainhole. Then he'll splash some water on the floor and his feet and come back out.
Pretty good for a 2 year old, aye? But accidents still happen and we are ok with that.

p/s- I did a potty post, 19 Feb 2008.

Traditional potty can easily be found in those shops that sells crockeries and kitchenware. Not in shopping malls, but those in residential areas..and not in area like Bu or Bangsar, I reckon.

Try TTDI or Section 17...I don't know which is more convenient for you. Other places: Pudu, OUG, Kepong...?
