Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia here we come!

Lately Reese has been reading signs in Bahasa Malaysia and writing imaginary Chinese Characters! So it's time to teach him the two languages.

I am weak in Bahasa Malaysia and a total banana when it comes to Chinese. How am I suppose to teach him these two languages? I have been thinking about this for sometime.

Yesterday at Popular book store, I decided to get some books to kickstart our BM and Chinese learning. So to start BM learning, I need to teach him 'suku kata' first and then blending/learning words and eventually sentences. Hopefully it won't be too stressful! As for Chinese, mmm... trickier, I will have to consult my mother on pronunciation. I have problem pronouncing some of the 'ping ying' correctly. Reading short stories seems a challenge to me. My pronunciation really sucks. I will have to learn Chinese together with Reese. For the sick of my child, I will have to overcome my phobia with Chinese characters!

A useful link to some great Chinese Materials for free. It even comes with multimedia support:

The entire site is in Chinese so I had to use Google translate to be able to read what was on the site. Click on Chinese Textbook and it will bring you to the course materials. Have fun downloading the materials! :)

First thing after he woke up..... got a piece of paper and started copying Chinese characters from one of his new book. Hope his interest is not temporary! :)

I am a banana too, when it comes to reading Chinese. Last week, also at Popular big sale, I learnt about a Chinese reading programme. I am going to try the programme. You could try the website www.flp.com.my or www.brainet.com.my..... Good Luck! Your boy's writing in Chinese looks nice.

Oh my, how I wish my girl would do like what Reese is doing every morning instead of searching for her toys! That makes teaching less stressful!

I am having problems with BM actually as it's a totally new language for my girl. Even asking her to remember the single word PEREMPUAN takes 1 week!

Hi Lydia,
Thanks for the info! Is his writing nice? I don't know..but I know when he writes Chinese characters is like drawing for him. :) I hope his interest doesn't disappear!

MommyAngel,
Reese is only doing this because it is something new! I believe soon enough he will not be so enthusiastic! :)
As for BM, have you taught your girl suku kata already? then I believe it is easier for her to remember words in BM?

MeRy,
I have a phobia with Chinese Chracters...don't know why...but I am trying.... I am going to get my mother to teach me so that I can teach Reese! :)

hi hi.... you've got the concept... writing Chinese characters is like drawing, because every work represent a drawing.
I'm phobia to Chinese characters also, but what to do...
