When Reese was sick....

Since Reese was sick and can't walk... we had no choice but to stay home and because of this, I had to cancel all my classes for the rest of the week to take care of Reese. It was great in a way because we got to spend sometime at home lazing around and I got to do some cooking! But after 2 days, we are both bored....hahaha... Some of the activities we did during the week.

Reese is into flags at the moment, so we coloured some state flags and then build a castle and put them on the castle

Managed to do some cooking!

Reese doing his drawing and notice the amount of paper on the floor?

Smiling for the camera.. you can see he looked sick!

He is exploring painting. Previously wasn't interested in painting

His interpretation of Indian kolam art as seen in many shopping malls

Besides drawing and painting, we did some reading, alot of playing and alot of cartoon watching too! Reese has recovered and is catching up on sleep and he can't wait to go back to school... and Ah... back to work tomorrow! :(

Thank you mummies for all your well wishes... really appreciate them!

Fever and Myalgia

Reese had his first fever for this year and it was bad. Fever was up and down since Saturday and lasted till yesterday afternoon before it was gone completely. Fever was very high with the highest being 39.5 Celsius. He behaved very well. Took his medication without a fuss.

This morning, when he woke up, he complained of pain on one of his calf. Then an hour later it was both the calves. We got worried. It was so painful that he can't even stand let alone walk. Poor baby. We took him to the pediatrician and she did a thorough check on him. He was diagnosed with a condition call Myalgia (Muscle pain due to viral fever). So there is basically nothing much we can do except to give him some paracetamol and wait for the muscle to heal on its own. *sigh*

Reading Stories....Finally!

A couple of days ago, Reese read The Cat in the Hat story in 2 sessions and loved it. Reese has reached another milestone. Yesterday during bedtime, he read an entire storybook all by himself. He read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss (64 pages). He enjoyed it and he can read quite fluently. I have been waiting for this milestone for a long time now. He can read words very well but not sentences. He doesn't have the attention span to read them previously. From now on, it's readers all the way...Yippie!

Dr. Seuss series is good for children reading phonetically. His stories are wacky but yet it's very engaging. Good use of words that can help readers read confidently. The only thing I don't like is the illustration.

Reese's Art III

After watching CW games... On TV they were showing India's flag... Reese drew this that very evening.

Chinese temple with lots of lanterns

One of his more colourful art work. Fireworks!

Mickey Mouse castle with firework display

Castle

More fireworks

Fireworks!
Tall structure

Angry Birds (I drew the green and blue bird..the nicest looking one..hehehe)
More Angry Birds

Reese claimed that these are no longer angry birds but happy ones... because they are making new friends.

A pan with scramble eggs, mushroom and sausages

Battleship with shooting cannons

Noah's Ark with sea creatures and corals

Tsunami with cracked roads and Noah's Ark and some other things

The most detailed Mr. F's house thus far. All his drawings are done on A3 paper

Construction site (Daddy drew the workman on the left)

Reese's bedroom complete with fan, cupboard, bed with lots of pillows and cushions, lamp, window with a firework view and decoration on the wall.

Tower of Babel

Castle with tornadoes

A more detailed castle with flapping flags (see the waves on the flags)

Lanterns hanging on bamboo trees

House decorated with lanterns, oil lamps, ketupats....

Sky scrappers

The 3 Grands.....

Reese is a very lucky boy. Everyone in the family loves him to bits.... I was so moved that I took these pictures on Thursday evening.

Grandma and big grand aunt watching him play Ipad

Grandma looking on, big grand aunt feeding Reese while small grand aunt gave Reese some advice on how to shoot the Angry Birds on the Ipad.

His grand aunts sayang him alot. He gets ice cream, chocolate, clothes, toys and more food from them. Now that my parents have moved and I moved my classroom to my aunt's house. He gets even more love from his grand aunts.

Sentence Writing

Reese has started to write sentences and words!

He started by writing words in his drawing lately and last week, he surprised us by writing his 1st complete sentence on his own: School is cool Reese is at school.

Cool isn't it? I was grinning with pride..... then few nights ago, he wrote this: The Lord of the Rings. Daddy labels this creepy... hahaha.

Few days ago, I took the opportunity to further encourage him to write sentences by drawing two stick figures and speech bubbles. Then I wrote simple conversational sentences and questions and Reese got hooked. Now he can draw his own speech bubble and write short sentences. Yesterday he wrote this: mm... I cannot swim.

My boy sure learns fast. Just glad he is having fun. He even knows how to use exclamation mark and question mark. I still have a problem. His writing. I am just too lazy (stressful too, he doesn't like to do those practice sheets) to get him to practise writing. He only did 3 practice sheets so far (A,a,B). Somehow he can write his alphabets but mostly uppercase letters and in his sentence writing, you see a combination of both uppercase and lowercase letters. :)

Diaper in the washer spells disaster!

Yesterday evening, guess what happened? I accidentally loaded the dirty clothes together with Reese's night diaper! Aiyo.... what at the mess! The gel from the diaper was all over the clothes and everywhere in the washer.

I had to take out all the clothes and have it rinse by hand. One piece at a time. Then have to clean up the washing machine. No easy task. Mmmmm... next time will have to check the clothes before putting them in to wash.

Bits and pieces of the diaper and its gel got stuck to every piece of clothing

Mess all over the floor

Gel everywhere!

Even in the inner rubber....

Blowing his candles, I added some sparkling candles (didn't really sparkle)

Enjoying his food

Really enjoying himself

Birthday Plans...

Reese's birthday is coming up real soon... it's next Thursday!! We have bought the party favours and wrappers only. Reese wanted a Mr. Frederickson's house with balloon cake... I have been thinking of how to do so without spending too much money on the cake! Hehehe... Then there is the party food to think about....do it myself or just buy KFC for the kids. Have to order those lovely helium balloons for the kids, have to make nice paper bags for the party favours.... have to make the invitation cards..... nothing is ready.

We are excited to celebrate Reese's birthday at school, this is the first time he is fully aware of what a birthday party is all about! He has been talking about his birthday party for a few months now. So much to do.....

Public Toilets, not afraid anymore!

Phew.... my dear son has finally conquered his fear of using public toilets! Yippie! (We can save on diaper pants!)

For the past two weeks we had successfully coaxed him to use the public toilets a few times to pee and also to pooh.... The only thing is we have to be selective with the toilets, Gardens at Midvalley has the cleanest and most comfortable kids toilet. :) Yes! another milestone before his 4th birthday.

Now need to work on the way he pees! He still doesn't want to stand and pee but prefers to sit and pee. Hhmmmm....

Conversation with Reese

Yesterday over dinner at a restaurant.... I tried to eat some of Reese's fried chicken pieces and guess what he said?

"Hey! Mummy don't SIMPLY ACCIDENTALLY eat my chicken pieces!!!"

In the car on our way home (He didn't want to go home)

Reese: "Mummy Alien, baby alien doesn't want to go home"
Mummy: "We must baby alien. It's very late."
Reese: " I am sad mummy alien."
Reese: " Mummy Alien, baby alien is not a lucky alien anymore"
Mummy: "Why aren't you lucky anymore?"
Reese: "Because I am not."
Mummy: "Is it because you have to go home? Is it because you are not happy?"
Reese: "Yes!"

** He has been role playing that day with him being baby alien, I am mummy alien and daddy is daddy alien. I also explained to him what lucky means the day before. I told him when someone is lucky, everything that happens will turn out well/good and you have everything that you need and you are happy.....

Saying Grace...

Reese started giving thanks to food when he was 2+. He learned to do so at playgroup and he will always be the loudest or sometimes the only one that said it out among his friends. The little prayer goes like this:

Thank you, thank you God for food, help us, help us to be good. AMEN.

So as usual, before our meal we will ask him to give thanks for the food and he surprised us by saying something like this:

Jesus loves mummy and daddy, Reese sets the table, Reese has food, Reese puts the fork and spoon...... we have rice and tau fuuuuuuuuuu....... bla...bla...bla.... AMEN ! (Can't remember what he said exactly...was a little too surprised to remember...hehehe )
